sakinorva.net began with a $12 contract to a web host that offered me a lot in return. It was, however, born out of a whim, and I lacked the foresight I would need to see that this website wouldn't be just some website on the Internet I had all to myself.

One day, I spontaneously decided that I wanted to make something better than the biggest typology databank that existed at the time, and within a couple of days, I made a databank of my own with the very, very limited knowledge I had of PHP and MySQL from making a function test that reported people's results back into a database.

When that big typology databank died the next day, I thought the timing couldn't be more perfect! It felt, in a lot of ways, like I finally had the opportunity to make a resource that wouldn't just be satisfactory or usable, but really good.

But unfortunately, we're sometimes met with issues that are outside of our control. Maybe the biggest challenge I've been facing has to do with the limitations hosting companies have placed on their bundled SQL databases, which may be why you may not be able to access the databanks every now and then, or why your test results aren't collected.

I initially set up donations in order to "bring out as much as I put in" and used the time I spent working on the site as justification, but it's always felt very, very dirty because I hardly consider this "work." This is something I do for fun, and you've only supported me all the way by indulging in my fancy; to call it something so serious feels very exploitative. In other words, I already do get so much more out of this website than I put into it, because your participation is so much more valuable to me. I kept the donate links on the website, but I shied away from promoting it or mentioning it because I knew I didn't really need it.

But things have changed a little bit. I want sakinorva.net to be a website that is of use to you in some way, and in order to keep it that way, I unfortunately have had to revisit donations.

If you use sakinorva.net and feel that you want to help out the website in further ways, please consider donating via Patreon. I do want to very strongly emphasize that you should only consider this option if you really feel like sakinorva.net has been of use to you.

Your expenses will go into all that is necessary to keep the website running:

- using a separate host for an SQL database that does not have grave limitations
- paying the web host

Your name will be added to the list of amazing people above, and you'll receive a donor tag on your account. If you have donated and are missing a donor tag or haven't been added to the list above, please contact me at [email protected] and I'll make sure to do so.
